Sarah Hyland

Sarah Hyland was born to actresses Melissa D. Canaday, and Edward James Hyland in New York City. She started her career in the industry when she was just 4 years old with commercial work as well as voice-overs. Private Parts was her first film. The Object of My Affection (1998) followed by Another World (1964) where she was "Rain Wolfe", a child discovered in the park who was fostered and cared for by Josie. Sarah would go on to work alongside Amy Carlson ("Josie" on AW) numerous times, including Falcone (2000), Law & Order (1990) and Law & Order: Trial by Jury (2005). Sarah was a part of Jennifer Love Hewitt’s The Audrey Hepburn Story(2000) as one of the Audrey Hepburns. The next year, she was featured in ABC's The Wonderful World of Disney: Annie (1999), with Audra McDonald, Victor Garber, Kristin Chernoweth, Joe Gould's Secret ((2000) and Falcone ((2000)). Sarah studied voice as well as tap, jazz, and hip-hop along with film and television. Sarah, a New Yorker, was also an invited performer with her tap and theatre dance classes at "Reel to Real" Lincoln Center. After being taught at home by her mom, she went to public schools until the second grade. She was admitted to PPAS in 6th grade. This was the school where she stayed until her graduation in 2008. Sarah was just 18 when she relocated to Los Angeles. She landed the pilot named "My American Family" within two weeks. The pilot's name was later changed to Modern Family (2009, after Sarah had been selected). As of now, Sarah portrays "Haley Dunphy", the eldest Dunphy child. Modern Family (2009) won many awards, the most notable being the Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series.
