Pom Klementieff
Pom Klementieff was born 3 May 1986. She
was a student at the Cours Florent drama school, Paris. She has appeared in
films such as Loup 2009, Sleepless Night 2011 and Hacker's Game 2015. She is
the Mantis character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Guardians of the
Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame
(1999). Pom Klementieff was the child of two parents: a Korean mother, and an
American-Russian father. Her father was consul in Quebec City, Canada. Eugene
Klementieff, a painter, was her grandfather. Pom was her name due to the fact
that it is a symphony of the Korean words "spring" and 'tiger"
in Korean. The actress spent a year in Canada prior to moving her family
throughout the world due to her father's job. They lived in Japan as well as
the Ivory Coast, before settling in France. Her father, who passed away in the
age of five from cancer was also her mother. She also suffered from
schizophrenia and was unable to care for her children. Klementieff was raised
with her paternal uncle and aunt. Her uncle, who she described as "like
[her] father" died when she was age 18. Her brother, who was older who
took his own life seven years later, was her aunt. Klementieff briefly attended
law school after the death of her uncle in order to appease her aunt but didn't
find the profession option appealing. She also worked as salesperson and
waitress in France. She began acting when she was 19and attended the Cours
Florent theatre school in Paris. A few months into her training, she was
awarded the competition for theater, which gave her free tuition for two years
at the school's most prestigious teachers. Her first acting gig professionally
was the French independent film Apres lui (2007), portraying the stepdaughter
of the lead character, played by Catherine Deneuve. The filming took place over
three days to capture her scenes. During one scene, Klementieff was to help
push someone down a set of stairs but she fell her way down the stairs, as did
director Gael Morel used that scene in the final film. Loup (2009) was her
first lead role in a film. It is a French film about a group of Siberian
mountain reindeer herders. She was filming in the middle of a camp located at a
distance from the closest village. The camp was where temperatures dropped to
minus.
